About Al Khawaneej
Al Khawaneej is one of the few agricultural communities in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It’s mostly a desert area located behind Mirdif, Al Warqa, and International City, and bordered by Al Aweer, another agricultural center of Dubai and home to many farms including one owned by the royal Maktoum family.
Al Khawaneej begins from the western side of Emirates Road (E611) and runs parallel to the Sharjah-Dubai border. It shows the authentic Emirati side of Dubai as it’s home to many locals, especially those who own farms.
The atmosphere of the area is one of tranquility and warmth, making it a great place to live for families or those looking for some peace and quiet.
A Closer Look at Al Khawaneej, Dubai
Al Khawaneej is divided into two districts, Al Khawaneej 1 and Al Khawaneej 2. It has many private farms and luxurious villas, making it popular among wealthy Emirati families who own farms.
Al Khawaneej 1 is primarily residential, and is home to the Quranic Park and Al Khawaneej Pond Park. Meanwhile, Al Khawaneej 2 also has residential properties, as well as extensive agricultural lands such as farms, plant nurseries, camel and horse breeding stables. Some well known companies also chose to set their farms there, such as Al Rawabi Dairy Company, the leading manufacturer and distributor of dairy and juice goods in the UAE.
Although it's a farming area, it's also home to contemporary attractions such as The Yard, a scenic lakefront destination featuring restaurants, walking trails and picnic areas; as well as AI Khawaneej Walk, a mall inspired by the greenhouse aesthetic and features shopping and leisure facilities such as boutiques, a gym, a cinema, and much more.

Al Khawaneej Walk
Al Khawaneej Walk is a unique mall with a plethora of dining and entertainment options. It’s modeled after the aesthetic of agricultural greenhouses, combining rustic and modern design elements. It features a wide variety of stores and restaurants, as well as Roxy Cinemas, and an arcade called ‘The Arcade by Hub Zero’.
The Yard
A popular leisure spot spread across 350,000 sq. ft., The Yard is an eclectic development by Meraas that combines a rural and urban lifestyle with a rustic courtyard, lake, cafes, shops, walking trails and picnic areas. It became a hotspot thanks to having the first love lock bridge in Dubai and ‘The Last Exit’ food truck park with its funky rustic decor.
The Yard also has Instagrammable murals, an organic farmers’ market, a wishing well, and a space where kids can ride ponies.
The Last Exit
There are 4 branches of The Last Exit, and the Khawaneej Branch is connected to The Yard. This unique food truck concept has become all the rage for its rustic decor, think animal sculptures, hanging baskets, and vintage ranch vehicles. Moreover, it’s full of food trucks offering delicious treats both sweet and savory.
Quranic Park
This unique park teaches visitors about the Holy Quran and Islamic history. Discover the different plants mentioned in the holy book, and explore different themed gardens such as the Islamic garden, desert garden, and a dedicated area to Andalusia in Spain. There’s also a Cave of Miracles, showcasing the significant events in the holy book via interactive technology.
Al Khawaneej Pond Park
An idyllic community park, Al Khawaneej has a central pond around which people can cycle, walk or run, or simply enjoy the lush greenery.
Al Khawaneej Walking and Cycling Track
The 19 km cycling track cuts across Al Khawaneej and connects to the Mushrif Park track. The RTA (Road and Transport Authority) announced plans to expand the cycling track even further.
