What Is FEWA?
Similar to SEWA, the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) is a government entity in the UAE. FEWA was renamed Etihad Water and Electricity (EWE) after being transferred to UAE’s sovereign wealth fund in 2021.
The authority is responsible for providing electricity and water services to the northern emirates, which include:
- Ajman
- Al-Fujairah
- Ras Al Khaimah
- Umm Al Quwain
Activation Process of FEWA
As a new resident, you can easily avail the services of FEWA. Setting up your FEWA account is a straightforward online process. Simply visit the EWE website and register using your details.
The required steps have been described below:
- Create an account
- Click on “Services”
- Select “E-Services”
- Select the option of “Customers”
- Then Select “New Customer Services Activation”
- Fill out the online application form with your information and any required documents
Approval takes one day, whereas your electricity and water services will be activated within 48 hours. The activation cost differs for different customers. Moreover, the FEWA customers must pay a security deposit upfront.
Required Documents for Activating FEWA
There are some official requirements for activating the FEWA or EWE services. The needed documents vary as an Emirati, landlord, tenant or expat; find the details below:
For Emiratis
- Valid Emirates ID card copy
- Family book (Khulasat Al Qaid) copy
- Title Deed (if available)
- Valid site plan
- Building Permit (required when applying)
- Completion certificate (before service connection)
- Stamped Load Card by the electrical contractor (approved by EtihadWE)
- Etihad WE approved Land clearance certificate
- Etihad WE technical drawings (for electricity and water)
- Accreditation licence copy of the engineering consultant and electrical contractor
For Tenants
- Emirates ID or Passport
- Municipality-approved tenancy contract
For Expatriates
- Valid UAE ID card/Passport copy (for non-residents in UAE)
- Title Deed (if available)
- Valid site plan
- Building Permit (required when applying)
- Completion certificate (before service connection)
- NOC issued by the Civil Defense Department (submit before service connection)
- Stamped Load Card by the electrical contractor (approved by EtihadWE)
- Previously approved Land clearance certificates by EtihadWE
- Etihad WE approved technical drawings (for electricity and water)
- Accreditation licence copy of the engineering consultant and electrical contractor
Activation Charges for FEWA Services
The connection cost for electricity and water services is compiled below.
Electricity Service Fees:
- 0-200 kVA: AED 300
- 201-500: AED 600
- 501-1000: AED 900
- 1001-3000: AED 1200
- 3001-5000: AED 1400
- Above 5000: AED 1600
Water Service Fees:
- AED 2,500 for a 15 mm metre
- AED 3,000 for a 25 mm metre
- AED 10,000 for a 50 mm metre
- AED 20,000 for 80 mm and above
After paying the fees, your electricity and water supply will be activated within 24 hours.

How to Disconnect FEWA Account and Services
There are two ways to disconnect your FEWA account and service:
Online Method to Disconnect FEWA
If you choose to discontinue FEWA services due to relocation, you need to disconnect your account. The online process is simple and has been elaborated here.
- Log in to your account on the FEWA website
- Select the Services option
- Choose E-Services
- Then click on “Customer”
- You will find a Clearance Certificate tab for moving out. Apply for it
- Expect your water and electricity to be disconnected within one day
After clearing the due bills, if any, the certificate will be issued for you within three days. The Clearance Certificate is issued online and does not cost anything.
Offline Method to Disconnect
If you prefer an alternative for disconnecting EWE services, this option is for you. Simply visit the nearest FEWA service centre with your Emirates ID, and the process will be handled for you. This option will cost an amount of AED 50.
