Need for the UAE Birth Certificate
The birth certificate is essential for filing for further documentation in the UAE. Whether you register your newborn to the family tree or apply for his passport, a birth certificate is one of the requirements.
1. Babies of UAE Nationals
After a baby is born, the hospital provides a birth notification, which government hospitals then issue. However, for private hospitals, parents must apply for a birth certificate via any of the following authorities:
- Ministry of Health and Prevention
- Emirate’s Health Authority
UAE nationals require a baby’s birth certificate when:
- Adding the baby to the family data at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP)
- Applying for a passport and Emirates ID
2. Babies of Expatriates
Residents in the UAE have 30 days to register their child’s birth. If parents are of different nationalities, the child will adopt the father’s nationality. To process birth certificates, parents must submit the following identification papers to the hospital or the relevant health authority:
- Attested Arabic translated marriage certificate (if in another language)
- Parent’s passport and visa (original and copies both)
- Hospital birth notification details
- Hospital discharge summary
All the expatriates must get their birth certificates attested by:
- Ministry of Health and Prevention
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
