Now that the balmy summer is slowly giving way to cooler days, you’re probably planning to spend more time outdoors. Beautiful weather means happy gatherings with friends and family. Whether you have sprawling acres or a small garden, it’s what you do with it that counts. Give your garden a pick-me-up this winter with these 10 DIY tricks. Short on space or on a tight budget? Don’t worry, just work with what you already have.
From yards and terraces to patios and porches, here are easy garden ideas that work for any spot you may wish to beautify.
- Spray paint metal folding chairs for entertaining in the backyard.
- Hot colours brighten up plain spaces; use vibrant tablecloths and cushions that come in bold, bright hues of green, red and blue. Patterns also add a colourful twist.
- Adorn tables and seating spaces with colourful rugs and throws.
- Turn an old chair into a swing.
- Take an old wheelbarrow and use it as a coffee table.
- Create depth to your garden by placing a mirror in between plants.
- Give an old worn bench new life by using it as a planter for container plants.
- Decorate your picket fence with a little garden décor. Try hanging a bouquet on it for a welcoming feel. Blend together different styles and shapes of patterned plates for more colour and add some climbing plants to finish the look.
- Use your fence as a blank canvas. Accessorise it with some of your up-cycle favorites or beautiful pieces. Have your kids’ old boots? Add them to the fence as pots to grow flowers.
- Paint bird boxes in bold bright colors and add them to the fence. Have an old jewellery organiser that you no longer use? Instead of getting rid of it, place it on your fence and get a shelf too! Also, old handbags make great planters. Try hanging 4-5 coloured pieces on your fence.
