While you might have baulked when Olympics tickets went on sale for hundreds of pounds, one hopeful vendor is hoping to find sports fans keen enough to pay tens of thousands of pounds for some front-row seats.
A tiny beach hut within walking distance of the Olympics site is being offered for sale for a staggering £75,000 (Dh427,000).
The former fisherman’s hut is just 13ft long and 11ft wide but boasts views of Lyme Bay and Chesil Beach from its perch on the Isle of Portland, in Dorset
Its owner has invited bids for the wooden hut on online auction site eBay with a reserve price of £40,000 (Dh228,000) as a minimum bid, but will accept an offer of £75,000 for an immediate sale.
They describe the one-room ‘chalet’ as having a ‘portable toilet, Calor gas hobs and grill, generator for electric, back up battery lighting, stand pipe for water, Portland flagstone patio, good size grass area.
It is described as being within ‘walking distance to the Olympic site with views’.
The description adds: ‘the beach hut is close to local amenities including cafe and good public toilets’.
The tiny space has a kitchen area, as well as a patio outside with table and chairs on its small garden area.
The auction of the hut, which has not attracted any bids so far, runs until next Wednesday, 18 July.
The Olympics sailing events are being held in Weymouth and Dorset from 29 July, giving the new owner of the hut a ringside seat to watch the races as they unfold.
The seller of the hut says they ‘loved coming to Portland’, adding ‘this really is a reluctant sell’.
