The project aims to set up an electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Dubai. With a growing network of charging stations, DEWA is supporting the shift to greener transportation.

Overview of the EV Green Charger Initiative

Launched in 2015, the EV Green Charger Initiative represents Dubai’s commitment to advancing sustainable mobility. The project aligns with the green transportation vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. 

This initiative began with the installation of 100 EV Green Chargers at Dubai’s key locations. And so far, the network has grown to over 400 charging stations, capable of serving about 740 EVs. This growth underscores the initiative’s role in building Dubai’s green transportation infrastructure.

The initiative is part of Dubai’s strategy to become a global example of intelligent urban development. By expanding the EV charging network, DEWA is promoting:

Types of EV Charging Stations

The EV Green Charger network offers four types of charging stations to meet different needs. They include:

EV Charger

1. Wall Box Charger

  • Power: 22 kW AC
  • Socket: Single Type 2 Socket

2. Public Charger

  • Power: 2 x 22 kW AC
  • Socket: Double Type 2 Socket

3. Fast Charger

  • Power: 43 kW AC, 50 kW DC
  • Sockets: Type 2, ChadeMO, Combo CCS

4. Ultra-Fast Charger

  • Power: 150 kW DC
  • Socket: Type 2 Socket

How to Use the DEWA EV Charging Stations

The DEWA Green Chargers are simple and convenient to use. Here’s how you can charge your EV:

For Registered EV Account Customers

Those who are already registered EV account customers should follow the following steps to use the charging station:

DEWA Smart App:

  • Open the DEWA app and scan the QR code at the charging station.
  • Log in using your DEWA Online User ID or UAE Pass.
  • Select your EV account and follow the instructions.

Smart Device Camera:

  • Scan the QR code using your device’s camera.
  • Log in using your DEWA Online User ID or UAE Pass.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

EV Green Charger Card:

  • Scan your EV Green Charger card using the charging station’s card reader.
  • Follow the instructions provided.

For Guest Mode Users 

You can still use the DEWA EV charging stations even if you don’t have a registered account. Simply follow these steps:

DEWA Smart App

  • Scan the QR code on the charging station.
  • Choose ‘Continue as a Guest’ on the log-in page.
  • Fill in your details and verify your email via OTP.
  • Select your charging package and complete payment.

Smart Device Camera

  • Scan the QR code with your device’s camera.
  • Complete the guest registration form and verify your email.
  • Choose a charging package and make payment.

Service Fees

The fees associated with using the EV Green Chargers vary:

For Registered EV Account Users

  • Security Deposit: AED 500 (Individual & Business), Government entities are exempt.
  • Delivery Charges: AED 20 (VAT applicable).
  • Consumption Fees: AED 0.38 per kWh + Fuel Surcharge per kWh + VAT.

For Guest Mode Users

Charging package fees vary based on the charger type and duration, ranging from AED 5.08 to AED 69.30.

EV Community Hub

The DEWA EV Green Charger Initiative has established an EV Community Hub where electric car owners can engage. Also, it gives out updates on the latest developments and initiatives for transportation in Dubai.

EV Account and Charging Card Management

DEWA offers several services for managing your EV account and charging card. These services include:

  • Create an EV Account: Set up a new account and receive an EV Green Charger Card.
  • Deactivate EV Account: Close your account and deactivate your charging card.
  • Replace Card: Obtain a replacement card if your current one is damaged or lost.

Stations at petrol stations are available 24/7, while those at DEWA Customer Happiness Centres operate daily from 7:30 AM to midnight.
