Core Objectives

The major goals of DEWA, which is a division of the Government of Dubai, are to:

  • Develop and preserve water resources and supply drinking water
  • Establish, manage, operate, and maintain electricity production, water desalination facilities, and power and water transmission and distribution networks in Dubai
  • To assist the Dubai Government in realising its goal of fostering sustainable development. The plan is to do so via the promotion of water and energy efficiency and investments in alternative energy sources

Now let’s know all about DEWA services

Similar to SEWA in Sharjah, DEWA offers a variety of services to major corporate organisations as well as individual clients.

DEWA Dubai provides the following services to individual clients:

  • Water and electricity connection in Dubai (Move-In)
  • Disconnection of water and electricity (Move Out)

Other Projects by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority

DEWA also offers services to encourage the use of alternative energy sources, such as solar energy. Moreover, the company has taken many initiatives, such as DEWA EV charging stations in Dubai. Let’s go through them:

Shams Dubai

DEWA has established this project to encourage solar energy in Dubai and simplify the transition to renewable energy sources. Shams Dubai allows property owners to connect their Photovoltaic (PV) systems to the DEWA grid. This results in lower power costs and the export of extra energy back to the grid.

Installing solar energy is an extensive process that may be briefly stated as follows:

  • Getting a No Objection Certificate (NOC)
  • Obtain Design Approval
  • Assessment and Connection
  • Generation

Employing contractors who can use their credentials to apply for an NOC via the electricity company’s website is required. A copy of the contractor’s trade licence will be required, and there are no application costs.

To begin utilising solar energy from DEWA, you must pay a one-time connection cost. The cost is AED 1,500 when the procedure is finished.

Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles

DEWA Dubai is dedicated to green projects. It has erected 200 EV Green Charger stations around the emirate to cut carbon emissions. This is to promote the use of sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation. You may simply get, substitute, or cancel an EV Green Charger Card via the website’s ‘EV Charger Card Services page.

DEWA Client Support

The “Customer Happiness Centres” run by DEWA are ideally situated around the emirate. Highly qualified staff members assist clients with their problems and inquiries.

Academy

To teach students from Emirati universities, DEWA founded the Vocational Academy. The purpose was also to nationalise entry-level positions in all of its departments.

The Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) of the United Kingdom is a partner. Students who complete the program are awarded degrees from BTEC.

They get academic and hands-on instruction in energy distribution, production, and transmission. Know all about the DEWA website’s ‘Student’ area to apply for an internship or a scholarship.

Builders

By granting NOCs, the Water and Electricity Administration also offers services to builders. It is also in charge of supplying electricity and water for building projects.

Using their DEWA login information, builders can apply online for new connections. The “Getting Electricity Connections” page is located in the “Builder” part of the DEWA website. Similarly, NOCs can also be acquired free of charge using an online procedure.

How to Get a DEWA Connection

Making connections is an easy task. Start by filling out the application. Then, attach the paperwork and pay the security deposit and DEWA connection costs.

Required Documents for Residential Connection

  • Signed application form
  • Tenancy contract copy

Required Documents for Companies

  • The company issues a No Objection Certificate (NOC)
  • Trade licence of the company
  • A copy of the company’s authorised signatory’s passport

Connection Cost

A non-refundable DEWA activation cost of AED 110 (for small metres) must be paid, regardless of the property’s kind. Villas need a security deposit of AED 4,000, while apartments only need AED 2,000. Paying the Knowledge and Innovation charge is an additional expense.

DEWA Bill Tariff

The costs associated with electricity, water, sewerage, and housing are included in your DEWA payment. Tenants must pay 5% of the Dubai Municipality housing fee.

The previous tenant’s outstanding DEWA bill should also be paid before departing. The landlord should verify the payment receipts before giving the tenant the security deposit.

The following are the typical unit prices that the company charges:

  • Electricity: AED 23 fils per kWh
  • Water costs: AED 3 fils per gallon

The monthly power prices apply to usage less than 2000 KWh. Charges for exceeding 2,000 KWh will be AED 28 fils per unit.

When you check your DEWA statement, you’ll find higher rates in summer due to greater use of cooling appliances. Similarly, water use would increase in homes with pools and gardens.
