New Speed Limit Changes in Abu Dhabi

If you are travelling from Dubai to Abu Dhabi or vice versa via Mohammed bin Rashid Road (E311), the minimum speed of 120 km/h has been lifted. This applies to the motorists who drive on the first and second lane. Meanwhile, the third and fourth lane are subsequently for the heavy vehicles.

Speaking of speed limits, the maximum speed limit on E311 is the same. If you don’t follow the minimum speed limit in Abu Dhabi, you can be charged AED 400 or more. Similarly, if you exceed the maximum speed limit, you can incur a traffic fine in Abu Dhabi.

On the other hand, the following roads’ speed limits have been reduced by 20 km/h:

  • For the Abu Dhabi-Sweihan road (E20), the speed limit has been reduced from 120 km/h to 100 km/h
  • The speed limit on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road (E11) has been reduced from 160 km/h to 140 km/h

Speed Limit Fines in Abu Dhabi

If you are overspeeding, you can face strict penalties as per the traffic fines in the UAE. For instance, if a driver exceeds the speed limit by 80 km/h or more, they can incur an AED 3,000 fine and 23 black points, which can lead to vehicle impoundment.

Similarly, going beyond the speed limit by 60 km/h can result in an AED 2,000 fine and 12 black points. Consequently, if a driver exceeds the speed limit by up to 60 km/h, they can face a speeding ticket of AED 1,500 and six black points. All speed limit offences can result in car impoundment and fines.
