Abu Dhabi City Golf Club – Overview

The Abu Dhabi City Golf Club is one of the oldest golf courses in the city. It began as the Abu Dhabi Golf and Equestrian Club in 1976. It remained an 18-hole golf course for 22 years. Then, it was transformed into Abu Dhabi’s first all-grass course in 1998.

The 18-hole course then became a 9-hole one designed by British golf course designer Ian Scott Taylor. Since then, millions of golf lovers have visited the club and enjoyed playing and challenging the nine holes.

The Golf Course and Holes Information

The Abu Dhabi City Golf Club features a Par 70 course that measures 6,307 yards for men and 5,403 yards for women. This nine-hole layout includes one Par 5, six Par 4s, and two Par 3s.

The hole-by-hole information below will provide you with a good overview before visiting the friendliest clubs in Abu Dhabi.

Hole 1 (City Start Stroke Index 10)

  • This opening hole offers a gentle start but requires an accurate drive, ideally on the right side of the fairway for best access to the well-protected green.

Hole 2 (Beware Stroke Index 4)

  • As its name suggests, you will find danger on both tee and approach shots.
  • It is a narrow fairway with no bounds to the left and water on the right. It runs 240 metres into the water.

Hole 3 (Academy Stroke Index 12)

  • This hole has a generous fairway. It is best for long hitters, as they would be able to carry the fairway bunkers, leaving a short approach.

Hole 4 (Tough Tier Stroke Index 16)

  • The green has a wide opening, making it easy to reach. However, bunkers on both sides will trap any off-target tee shots.
  • A large slope in the middle of the green makes choosing the right club important. Consider this if you want to set up an easy birdie putt.

Hole 5 (Risk and Reward Stroke Index 6)

  • It is a long dogleg right with a wasteland curve on the right-hand side of the hole.

Hole 6 (Grandstand View Stroke Index 18)

  • It is a little dogleg right with the greens pushed into the peninsula covered with thick rough, water and bunkers.

Hole 7 (Dead Aim Stroke Index 4)

  • This hole is very demanding, Par 3, for players who go for the green.
  • It is well-guarded by water on the right and out-bounds to the left.

Hole 8 (Long Slong Stroke Index 2)

  • This is one of the longest yet most challenging holes in UAE golf history!
  • It is flanked by out-of-bounds to the left. The water merges to the right side and across the fairways up to 610 yards!

Hole 9 (Tin Cup Stroke Index 8)

  • Located just beyond the pond, this hole slopes steeply from back to front. Any shot that falls short will likely roll back into the water.
  • It’s a memorable finishing hole at the Abu Dhabi City Golf Club that will leave a lasting impression.
